CNDH ORGANIZES ROUND TABLE ON POLITICAL PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN AND YOUTH IN LIGHT OF JAPANESE EXPERIENCE

The (Moroccan) National Human Rights Council organizes a round table on the political participation of women and the youth in light of the Japanese experience in the area, on November 17, 2011, at its headquarters in Rabat.

Held in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency, this gathering will be led by Professor Ri Shiratori, Director of the Japanese Centre for Political Studies and international expert in the field of elections.

CNDH president Mr. Driss El Yazami and Japanese Ambassador Mr. Toshinori YANAGIYA will open this meeting. In addition to their two speeches, Prof. Shiratori will give a presentation on the topic of this round table.

The Moroccan new Constitution gives a great importance to women and youth’s issues. It urges public authorities “to take all appropriate measures to expand and generalize the participation of youth in the country’s social, economic, cultural and political development”. It recognizes that “men and women shall enjoy, on an equal footing, the civil, political, economic, social, cultural and environmental rights and freedoms”. It provides for the creation of an advisory council for youth and an Authority in charge of parity and the fight against all forms of discrimination.
