CCDH SECRETARY GENERAL MEETS A MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF THE SULTANATE OF OMAN
Mr. Mahjoub El Hiba, Secretary General of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) and Mr. Moustapha Raissouni, CCDH member, met on 15 December 2010, at the headquarters of the Council in Rabat, Mr. Saudi Ali Abdullah Al-Jabri, member of the National Human Rights Commission of the Sultanate of Oman.
On mission to Morocco, within the framework of his participation in the regional conference on social dialogue in Arab countries, Mr. Abdullah Al Jabri wished to inquire about the Moroccan experience in the field of human rights in general and the Council’s in particular.
Mr. Raissouni briefed the Omani official on the history of the Council since its inception in 1990, highlighting the key moments of its career: the Independent Commission of Arbitration, the Equity and Reconciliation Commission and the follow of its recommendations, the National Plan of Action on Democracy and Human Rights, the Citizenship Platform for the Promotion of Human Rights Culture, etc..
Mr. Abdullah Al Jabri expressed his wish to deepen his knowledge about the experience of the Citizenship Platform for the Promotion of Human Rights Culture. He highlighted the willingness of the young/new Omani National Human Rights Commission, created last year and has a three-year term, to promote human rights culture, being the basis for the evolution of societies.
The Sultanate of Oman celebrated, for the first time this year, Human Rights Day. It launched officially the logo of the National Human Rights Commission of the Sultanate of Oman. Founded in 2008, the commission is composed of 14 members organized into three working committees: Legal Affairs, Reports and Documentation and Relationship and International Organizations.
For his part, Mr. Mahjoub El Haiba expressed the Council’s readiness to cooperate with the Omani commission and exchange mutual experiences in the different programs, including the Arab-European Human Rights Dialogue.
