Seminar: call to guarantee access to public audiovisual media for persons with disabilities

The Regional Human Rights Commission of Rabat-Kenitra hosted in Rabat a seminar on the implementation of disability rights and the international conventions related to the rights of persons with disabilities, on May 28 2013.

More than 120 participants took part in this seminar, representing different government departments (health, employment and education), local authorities, the Inter-ministerial Delegation for Human Rights, the Mediator (or ombudsman), the regional education academies of Rabat and Kenitra and disability rights associations.

The participants came out with several recommendations: design and implement a comprehensive public policy related to people with disabilities, adopt an inclusion based approach instead of the integration based approach, use of sign language in public audiovisual media to facilitate access to information for people with disabilities, etc.

Disability rights are one of the main objectives of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Rabat-Kenitra’s annual plan of action 2013-2014.
