Second Stage of Fadma Ouherfou Reconciliation Caravan

As part of the follow-up of the recommendations issued by the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER) and the project on "the promotion of women’s rights and their role in the process of transitional justice in Morocco" and in partnership with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) organizes the second stage of Fadma Ouherfou Reconciliation Caravan (Agdez-Zagoura) on May 1-3, 2009.

This phase, which will go through Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Agdez, will see the participation of girls students of Imlchil, women from Ksar Sountate, local development actors in Imilchil and Errachidia, local stakeholders involved in the community reparation program in Ouarzazate and Zagora and youth in the Bni Zoli shelter home in Zagora.

The objective of this second phase is to raise the awareness of local stakeholders in Ouarzazate and Zagora on the suffering of women during the period known in Morocco as the years of lead, to present the experiences of pilot projects launched in Imilchil on the preservation of the memory of Fadma Ouharfou and those launched in Zagora, to enable young people in Imilchil to pay tribute to Fadma Ouharfou by visiting her grave in Agdez.

The Fadma Ouherfou Reconciliation Caravan was received during the first phase (Errachidia-Rabat) on March 30, 2009 by various national and international stakeholders and civil society.

It should be noted that the UNIFEM project aims to support the process of democratic transition initiated by Morocco through gender mainstreaming in the process of following up the IER recommendations.
