CNDH pavilion at 28th SIEL 2023 commemorates 75th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The pavilion of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) at the 28th International Publishing and Book Fair (SIEL) commemorates, from 1 to 11 June 2023, in Rabat, Morocco, the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) under the slogan "30 Universal Commitments for Human Dignity."
Its participation in SIEL aims at reiterating the human rights priority and ensuring their implementation and effectiveness.
Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, states that the Council, as a national human rights institution, is mandated to promote and protect human rights in line with Article 161 of the kingdom’s Constitution. It seeks through this commemoration to reflect upon the implementation and impact of this foundational text. Within this context, the CNDH pavilion will provide accessibility for persons with disabilities including sign language. It will be an open and inclusive space. It will host activities on key developments and issues addressed by the UDHR and advocated by the CNDH.
The program will include several sessions namely: "Debates," "Focus on a Book," "Poetic and artistic expressions" and "Cultural and artistic activities with children."
The ten-day program will feature 11 intellectual debates and 22 book discussions, bringing together national and international experts (95 personalities from diverse fields), as well as institutional and civil partners. The CNDH pavilion will also host children from all regions of the Kingdom and exhibit its publications, including annual/thematic reports and memorandums...
Participants in CNDH’s events will discuss key themes such as reforming the Family Code, the role of the global south countries in adopting and drafting an international pact on the third generation of human rights, the universality of human rights, the assessment of public policies, denouncing violence and combating impunity, social protection rights, migration, young people and citizenship initiatives and the impact of the digital space on the right to opinion.
The pavilion will host open sessions featuring publications and readings by several writers and philosophers, namely Souleymane Bachir Diagne (Senegal), Abdelfattah Kilito (Morocco), Scholastique Mukasonga (Rwanda), Hyam Yared (Lebanon), Abdelhay Moudden (Morocco), Abdelhamid Bajouki (Morocco), Jeanne Fouvet-Fauvernier and Cécile Oumhani (France) and Susie Alegre (United Kingdom).
In addition to hosting artistic activities (paintings, poetry and theater), CNDH’s pavilion will dedicate a daily slot to children to share their concerns and aspirations through words, art and culture.
